May 21, 2008

The Skyline School Board met for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.  The board approved the establishment of a drug testing program to begin the upcoming school year, for students participating in activities.  The school will be scheduling some informational meetings, later this summer, and the specifics of the policy will be finalized in July.  A bid was accepted from Asphalt Paving and Sealing, of Louisburg, to patch, seal and stripe the school parking lot.  The project will be completed in June.  The certified salary schedule was approved with a base teacher salary of $28, 500 and the non-certified salary schedule was approved with a 3% increase.  Extra duty assignment stipends were approved for Volleyball, Softball and Baseball.  The board also voted to accept embedded credit from the Dallas County Career Center provided that the student completes the two year career program.  Students will be granted credit at the end of the program provided they complete the program.  The board voted to support the establishment of a foundation through the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.  A committee will be established that will oversee the program.  A foundation is a community based organization designed to help meet emerging and long range needs of school districts.  Boehne Financial and the Hartford Company was approved to serve as the exclusive 403 (b) representative for the district.  A plan document will be prepared to comply with legislation requiring this document to be in place by January, 2009.  The board also denied a request for Prom to be held off campus.  A concern for an increase in cost and the additional financial stress that would place on area businesses was the reason for the decision.  A resignation was accepted from Jennifer Laird and Leslie Acker was hired as a teacher.  Brett Bybee was employed as the boy’s assistant basketball coach and Terry Barclay was employed in food service.  Commendations were issued to the State Champion Nursery Team (Mary Ann Percival as State Champion Individual, Shelby Kirk, Tiffany Hardin, Cassidy Carneal) , and the National Qualifying Soils Team (Rebecca Melton, Diedra Parks, Shelly Ganley, Alicia Button).  Commendations were also issued to State Music Contestants, Teryn Snow, Svetta Kroutil, Dalton Potter, Brittney Abel, Derek Skidmore, Bronwyn Rinerson, and Carl Wilken.  Jennifer Gladbach was also issued a commendation for her service in organizing the Prom.  The next meeting of the Skyline School Board will be Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Middle School Conference Room.
